The american dream

The american dream is a concept that is popular with new immigrants to america and it means that if you move to america and work hard you will make it there and be successful and more wealthy than they were back in thier home countries.This was popular in the early 1900's but not so popular now and many think that the american dream is dead.

The Migrant Experience

I am a migrant worker named Bob. I was born and raised in arkansa and have lived there all my life. My family were all famers and were always poor and had a lot of mouths to feef so we never had enough money to really get any good farming equpment and with the new demand for farming products we had to borrow money to expand our farm. We moved to California after our farm and house were taken away by the bank and we had almost no money or possessions all I had was my family. It was a long and hard road but we finally made it, but it was not the rich "promised land" we had expected but it was still better than the all the dust and dry feilds back home. It took weeks but we finally were able to get a job at a ranch here harvesting and planting the feilds along with other farm hands, some from near where we live and others from as far away as asia. We are discriminated against here and we miss home sorely. We live in a migrant worker camp with many other migrants from the dustbowl. We live here because we are free from discrimination against us and it has better living conditions that are cleaner and more comfortable.
